Villagers line the streets for Fair Oak Carnival (From Daily Echo)

A HAMPSHIRE carnival saw hundreds of villagers line the streets to get a look at this year’s colourful entries.

The Fair Oak Carnival brought a party atmosphere to the village, with the parade starting at New Road and winding its way along the route towards a fete for all the family.

Fair Oak and Horton Heath Parish Council took over the running of the event from the community association in 2003.

Cheryl Gosling, parish clerk at Fair Oak and Horton Heath Parish Council said: “We had around 500 attending and the weather stayed dry which was good. The fete that followed was also very well attended, and we even had a dog show with around 20 dogs taking part.”

1st Bishopstoke Scouts won the prize for Best Vehicle, themed ‘In a galaxy far, far away’, and LR Brooks Chimney Services as chimney sweeps were runners up.

The Best Walking prize went to 1st Fair Oak Scouts dressed as emojis, with Happy Days Pre School the runners up.

The Best individuals were Hedge End Carnival Court, Most Amusing went to Fair Oak Junior School and The Roma Burgess Community Award went to Wyvern College Band.

The best overall prize was awarded to Fair Oak Girl Guiding for their ‘Minion Mayhem’ entry.
