Tupukas Primary School hosted a successful three-day inter-house carnival as part of their commitment to sports maximising the integral human development of their students.
The school situated in the heart of Arawa Town, Central Bougainville, named its four teams after colours that are the physical features of the four volcanoes in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
The teams are Bagana (red, depicting the lava), Balbi (yellow, the sulphur), Takuan (green for the dominant colour all around) and Luloru (blue, the colour of the water in the crater).
Head teacher Joseph Siara said the main aim of the carnival was to ensure the students were provided the opportunity to take part meaningfully in sports.
“We have four terms in a school year and for each term teachers plan activities by balancing the components of intellectual, physical, social and spiritual growth.
“These components are the essential parts of the life of the students which may have effect on the academic achievement and their relationship with fellow students,” Siara said.
He added that in term one, they had activities to provide opportunity for spiritual growth and this term two we have this sporting activity which will promote the physical development of the students.
“I would like to give special praise and congratulations to the carnival organising committees Castello Lapun, Shirley Tuni, Thecla Tauko and Everlyn Bereko for the tireless effort they’ve put forward to make this event possible.
Siara further thanked the following business houses in Arawa who contributed in kind, namely Jerohi Enterprises, Jayberth Stationeries, Likui Trading, Rising Sun Lodge, Augustine Tuni of AEJ, STI Trading and Hubert Diou who contributed K650 cash towards the carnival.
The Blue Luroru team came out the overall winners for 2017.
