Salute to Summer set for May 25–28 | Papillion Times

A parade, fireworks and free food. What’s not to love?

That’s just a sample of what La Vista’s annual celebration, Salute to Summer, has to offer May 25–28.

The celebration brings out thousands of visitors each year and Mitch Beaumont, community relations coordinator, said it’s a chance to show off the community.

“Memorial Day weekend kind of ramps up summer for everyone,” Beaumont said. “It’s a perfect time to celebrate La Vista and the beginning of summer.”

The weekend kicks off with the Hometown Heroes event on May 25 that honors all veterans and active military members.

The carnival and vendor booths will open its four-day run on Thursday as well.

Friday sets the stage for one for one of the festival’s most popular events, the Community Cookout. There will be free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drink as well as activities and games for children.

Friday also marks the first of two nights of the beer garden which will feature live music in Central Park.

Saturday is highlighted by the parade down Park View Boulevard as well as more live music and fireworks in the evening.

A family pool party at the La Vista Municipal Pool helps wrap up the celebration on Sunday.

Beaumont said the city, which re-branded the event three years ago from La Vista Daze, has maintained the same type of attractions over the past several years.

“These are popular events and there’s no sense messing with a good thing,” he said. “I think these are the events people have come to love and expect.”

Beaumont said the celebration is a chance to bring families in the community together.

“I think one of the best parts is seeing groups gather in yards because of the parade,” he said. “You see all the side celebrations and that’s community at it’s best. The city does pretty much everything for free and I think people appreciate that.”
