Police rugby league is alive and well in Townsville, as we hosted for the first time ever the annual interstate tri-series between police services from Queensland, New South Wales and an affiliated States team, on the weekend at Brothers Leagues Clubs’ Jack Manski Oval.
The Queensland team featured in this year’s carnival received a boost of three local players who represented the Northern Stingers earlier in the year at the QPSRLA carnival on the Gold Coast. Players will be vying for selection in the Australian team which will be named today, which will run from Saturday to Monday.
There was also a match between the local Townsville District Police Masters team – the “Outlaws”, and WEA’s Masters team, with both games on Saturday leading up to the muchly anticipated Mendi Blackhawks home game against the Brisbane Souths “Magpies”.
Whilst colleagues and “Brothers in Arms” off the field, there was great rivalry between all teams looking to take home the trophy and bragging rights from last years winners – New South Wales Police Service.
Come along and watch today’s game, QPS vs Affiliated States Police today at 4pm.
Announcement of the Australian team will take place at the completion of this game.
