Fights at Louis Joliet Mall cause early shutdown, one arrested

JOLIET – At 9:26 p.m. on Saturday night, Joliet police responded to a series of fights involving teenagers at the Louis Joliet Mall Carnival 2017.

The teens were throwing bottles and many refused to leave the carnival, which took place in the parking lots between Carson’s and Sears according to Deputy Chief Al Roechner. The two officers on duty then called in backup to help get the teenagers to leave. One man, Semaji Hawkins, 18, continued to refuse to leave and was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing.

The fights caused the carnival to shut down at 9:30 p.m., half-an-hour before it was scheduled to close at 10 p.m.
