Traditionally, a wedding ring is worn on the fourth finger (thumb included) of the left hand in many parts of the world. This is based on the belief that the Latin name ”vena amoris” or ”vein of love” ran directly from the heart to this finger. There are other people in parts of the world such as Germany, Chile, and Russia who wear wedding rings on the right hand.
Anyone who suffers from sensitive skin may prefer a wedding ring made from more skin friendly metals. Hypoallergenic metals that are suitable for wedding rings include platinum, palladium, and titanium. Higher gold carats, although not necessarily hypoallergenic, are going to be better than a lower carat as there will be more gold in the alloy and less of other potentially irritating metals.
