GRANTS PASS, Ore. – Memorial Day weekend is just a few days away but Boatnik is already kicking off the celebration.

Boatnik started off the weekend with carnival rides for $2 all evening Thursday.

Starting Friday armbands go for $31.

Also Friday, is the golf-shoot out and fireworks display as well as a brand new addition to the festival.

“I think one of the biggest things we’ve got going on is Jack Russell’s “Great White.” That is probably the most exciting thing that we as a club decided to bring more entertainment into the club,” Grants Pass Active Club member Gerrin Beck said.

That, coupled with the sunny skies we’re expecting over the weekend will bring more than 50,000 people through Boatnik over the weekend.

Beck says they thought of the name Boatnik in 1959 just two years after the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik.

If you plan on coming by this weekend you can find a link to the full schedule of activities here.
