This is something that has its roots deep in history. In fact it was in the late 15th Century when Archduke Maximilian of Austria gave a diamond ring to Mary of Burgundy that we have the first record. The diamond represented both purity and symbolized love.
However, the ancient Greeks and Romans believed diamonds were the tears of the gods, splinters from falling stars and even slivers of moonlight. Diamonds were also once again linked to the idea of everlasting love, as it was widely believed that Cupid’s arrows were tipped with diamonds.
