15-month-old girl seriously hurt at Kansas carnival

15 May, 2017

The Wichita Eagle reported that the girl was injured Friday night while standing outside a bounce house with her dad while her mom and big sister were inside.

After all, she’s only 15 months old.

To pass the time while waiting, she made a decision to swing back and forth on a wire in front of the bouncy house while her father shot video at about 9 p.m.

Wichita police officer Charlie Davidson said two off-duty police officers with the Wichita Police Department were flagged down by a parent this weekend at a carnival outside the Towne West Square mall.

Davidson said that the girl grabbed some metal bars around the rides and went unconscious. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police say the cause is still under investigation, and officers haven’t confirmed she was shocked.

“She’s got burn marks on her toes where it came out of her I guess”, she said.

According to the carnival company, Evans United Shows, there is no danger to people in the area where it happened and the carnival has ground rods to prevent shocking issues.

“A fun evening turned into a lot of pain”, Bartonek said.
